As a communication coach and specialist, I have given style surveys to my clients over the years. The one I like the best is MyBEST Profile. I like that one because it’s easy to remember and the styles are simple. Myers-Briggs is very complicated and most people have trouble remembering the styles. The point is not to do a deep psychological analysis (if you wanted that, you’d have to take the MMPI under the guidance of a clinical psychologist) but to help people better understand their communication styles and those of others.
To that end, I’ve created a survey for you to take. This survey will tell you if you are a Bold, Expressive, Sympathetic or Technical reader.

I got 6 technical, 3 sympathetic, and 1 bold. This was interesting and I was surprised that it seemed to peg me as well as it did because on several of the questions none of the answers fit well for me. For example, number 2: there was no paperback choice so I picked hardcover which seemed to fit the spirit of the question, but then I’m probably being technical. 🙂 Also, numbers 6 and 8 had no really satisfying choices for me. Hope others in our book club will take the test. Would be fun to see if our friends’ perceptions of us are consistent with our test results. Thanks for posting!

Hi Jane,
Thanks for your comment. I have use the BEST communication style a lot with my work and thought it would be fun to see how the styles stood up to reading. Looks like it worked for you. Sorry some of the questions didn’t have choices you wanted. I tried to make it as simple as possible. I maybe want to expand it a bit if the Book Club members want to give it a go. You’ll see future blog posts that describe each of the styles in more detail and look at reading within that style. Let me know what you think!
